Setting the Hook with the Product Concept Document "Pitch"
The first page of the Product Concept Document is the pitch. The pitch is a forward-looking, customer-centric summary of the product, presented in a clear and concise manner. In my career, I've found the most effective way to frame a pitch is to use the press release format pioneered by Amazon with their PR/FAQ document structure. I've included a press release below. Other effective pitch formats can be a customer letter, or for internal products, an email or an organizational Slack/blog post. Regardless of the chosen format, the pitch should incorporate the elements detailed below for the press release and is ideally one page in length.
Here is an example pitch in press release format followed by a detailed explanation.
Blue Cross of Pennsylvania goes paperless with Dunder Mifflin’s FaxGPT. Realizes $50MM savings in overhead costs in the first six months.
Las Vegas, NV - October 30, 2023 - Today at Insuretech Connect, the world’s largest gathering of insurance innovation, Blue Cross of Pennsylvania announced they will be deploying Dunder Mifflin’s FaxGPT, an artificial intelligence productivity tool that streamlines internal operations. During its initial training period, FaxGPT learns by observing internal communications and workflows. It then applies its learnings using artificial intelligence to reduce or eliminate redundant manual activities resulting in an 87% reduction of overhead costs and a 42% reduction of processing errors.
In today's fast-paced business environment, companies are inundated with internal communications and bureaucratic business processes that can overwhelm even the most efficient teams. This can lead to increased operational costs, human errors, decision-making bottlenecks, and a demotivated workforce. Recognizing this challenge, FaxGPT harnesses the power of generative AI to simplify complex internal workflows. FaxGPT provides a tailor-made solution that learns from your operations to automate routine tasks, eliminate errors, and significantly cut down on costs. It’s not just a tool; it's a transformative force that empowers teams to focus on higher-value activities and create a more productive, error-free, and cost-effective workplace.
Customers deploy FaxGPT in two phases. Firstly, FaxGPT is deployed in a three month observation phase where internal communications and data flows are meticulously captured, analyzed and cataloged. Leveraging this data, FaxGPT constructs custom Large Language Models (LLMs) that are finely tuned to the company's operations. The LLMs are used by its advanced generative AI engine to automate tasks and reduce the reliance on human resources and free them up for strategic work. FaxGPT’s key capabilities include data integration from 100s of enterprise sources, a real-time analytics dashboard allows for immediate operational insights, predictive analytics to aid in informed decision-making, and stringent data security protocols ensure sensitive information is protected. The product is customizable to specific business needs and is scalable for growth. Additionally, FaxGPT supports users with comprehensive training and customer service, facilitating smooth integration into business systems.
"At FaxGPT, we're committed to more than just streamlining operations; we aim to empower businesses with AI that adapts and scales with you. Our platform stands out by transforming efficiency into strategic advantage, ensuring that your team can focus on what truly matters," said David Wallace, President and CEO of Dunder Mifflin. “But, what we've consistently heard from our customers was that they wished they had a more efficient way to operate. This is why we built FaxGPT. We've spent the last three years working on a generative AI solution and found when we deployed it at our Scranton, NJ location, we were able to eliminate all management staff while lowering costs and increasing productivity. These results have been duplicated with our initial customer deployments.”
Customers will discover and interact with FaxGPT through web, mobile and voice applications where a blend of analytics and intuitive design guides them from the first click. Within a brief orientation period, they'll witness the AI's capabilities firsthand as it begins to map out their company's unique communication landscape. As the system observes and learns, it will start to take on tasks, from data entry to complex analytics, cutting down hours of manual work. The value is clear: as FaxGPT takes the helm of routine operations, businesses can allocate their human resources to where they're most needed — on innovative and strategic initiatives. This isn't just about keeping up; it's about leaping forward. Companies using FaxGPT will not only see a reduction in costs and errors but will also experience a surge in productivity and employee satisfaction.
“As the COO of a mid-sized enterprise, I was skeptical about the promise of AI to streamline our operations. But FaxGPT is a game-changer. In the first three months, the observation phase alone provided us with invaluable insights. Now, the custom LLMs have taken over tasks we didn't even realize were bogging us down. Our operational costs have dropped by 30%, and our team's productivity has soared. The real-time analytics have been crucial for our strategic decisions, and the robust security protocols make us feel confident that our data is in safe hands. What's more, the transition was seamless, thanks to the exceptional support and training from the FaxGPT team. We're not just keeping up; we're setting the pace in our industry, all thanks to FaxGPT," said Jennifer Veck, COO of Blue Cross of Pennsylvania.

An optional sub-headline can be included to underscore a significant secondary message. It is advisable to write the headline last, as it often becomes clear during the development of the press release's main body.
